With the suspension of public Masses in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, you may be wondering how you can continue to pray and participate in the life of the Church. Fortunately, although we cannot gather publicly, the priests in our parish and around the world are continuing to offer Mass for us.
Here are a few things you can do to participate in Mass during this time:
Look up the readings ahead of time on the USCCB website here:
http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/032220.cfm. If you are looking for a different day, you can select the date on the calendar on the right-hand side.
Watch Mass on television or via live-stream. There are many resources for this, including Masses within the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and around the country.
Daily Mass: 8:15am EST from Bishop Robert Barron’s chapel:
https://www.wordonfire.org/daily-mass/ 8am, Noon, and 7pm on EWTN
Sunday Mass: 11am with Archbishop Pérez at
www.archphila.org or
www.facebook.com/archbishopperez 8am, Noon, and 7pm on EWTN
5:30am on 6ABC
8:30am on Verizon Ch. 19
Make an Act of Spiritual Communion during the time of distribution of Communion in the Mass that you are watching or at any point during the day when you think of it. You can do this by saying a prayer similar to the following:
Lord Jesus, I love you with all my heart and desire to be close to you. I am sorry for all of the times when I have sinned, and I entrust myself totally to your mercy. I believe that you are really and truly present, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity, in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist. Because I cannot receive you sacramentally right now, I ask that you come at least spiritually into my heart and into my life. Jesus, I trust in you. Amen.
Additionally, you may want to make some small changes to how you watch the Mass so that it doesn’t feel like you are just watching a movie. Maybe you get dressed up like you normally would for Church or you turn your cellphone off so that this can really be a time of prayer. You can light a candle or set up a special religious image in your living room. Whatever you do, know that God desires to make His love known to you and that He will rejoice in your open heart and desire to be close to Him.
We will be posting more resources to help sustain your spiritual life during this unique time on our Facebook page. If you have not liked it yet, now is the time!
