In 1925, the Italian parishioners of Saint Agnes raised money to pay for this window of the Assumption in Saint Agnes Church. This is the origin of the Assumption Day celebration that we have traditionally had at Saint Agnes Parish!
The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (August 15th) celebrates when Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken body and soul into heaven, where she reigns as Queen of Heaven with Jesus. This foretells the reality that we are all headed for heaven through the Resurrection of the Body.
This year, we won't be able to have our typical in-person celebration, but we invite you to join us in praying a special novena in preparation for the Assumption.
A novena is a period of prayer that lasts for 9 days. We invite you to sign up for a free digital novena that we have made specifically for our Saint Agnes community! The novena begins this Friday, August 7th.
Each day, you will receive short prayers and some information about the celebration of the Assumption of Mary. We will also be sending videos to help you pray the Holy Rosary along with our parish community.
If you would like to participate in the novena, please sign up for it here. We will not automatically be sending it out to our email list. This is a digital novena and will not take place in-person.
