The Sacrament of Baptism is the foundation of the entire Christian life. Jesus said, "Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God." (John 3:5)
How are we reborn in Baptism? We are adopted as sons and daughters of God and are washed clean of original sin, which had separated us from God. The priest or deacon says the words, "I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit," and we become a part of the family of the Holy Trinity. We are united to God and to other members of the Church, who have also been adopted as members of this family. As a member of this family, the Church, God gives us grace and strength to live the abundant life that He has planned for us.
How to Arrange A Baptism
Prior participation in Pre-Jordan program is required. Arrangements can be made through the Parish Office. Pre-Jordan takes place on the 1st Sunday of each month at 12 Noon in Thomas Patrick Hall.
Requirements for Godparents and Sponsors:
The Church only requires that there be one godparent who is at least 16 years old, but there may be up to two. At least one of the godparents must be a practicing Catholic, while the second person would act as a Christian Witness and can be a practicing Christian of any denomination.
A Letter of Eligibility is necessary for each Catholic Godparent or Confirmation Sponsor. This letter is to be obtained from the parish of which the godparent or sponsor is registered and presently worshipping. It must be the original letter stamped with the parish seal and signed by the pastor. This letter indicates that the godparent or sponsor meets all of the requirements, including attending Mass regularly, received all of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation) and if married, married in the Catholic Church. Please complete this form to submit your request to Saint Agnes Parish if you are a parishioner.
A Christian Witness (Non-Catholic) would need an original and official letter from the church where they are actively worshipping indicating that they are baptized Christians who are practicing their faith.
