Life Works

To humbly serve Christ and build community in the Body though helping those in their time of need.

JESUS CALLS US TO HELP OTHERS

Life Works LogoAll parishioners are welcomed and encouraged to participate in this year’s St. Agnes – Life Works weekend.  Life Works begins its fourth year of service to the local and surrounding communities.  The program is an opportunity for parishioners to put their faith into practice.  The acronym for LIFE WORKS represents Living In Faith Exemplified Through WORKS.  Jesus challenges each one of us to live our faith to its fullest.  He asks each of us to make helping others our life work.

In Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus is tested about which commandment in the law is the greatest.  Jesus replies, “You shall love the Lord your God with all of your heart, and with your soul, and with all your mind.” This is the greatest and first commandment.  And a second is like it: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

In James 2:14-17, James emphasizes the need for a faith that results in charity toward the poor. “What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but do not have works?” Can faith save you?  If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill,” and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that?  So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.

Finally, Jesus sums up the true meaning of LIFE WORKS in his message to us found in Matthew 25:40. “And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”

WHAT CAN I DO TO SERVE?

You may respond in several ways.  There will be hospitality events sponsored by LIFE WORKS following each Mass on Sunday, February 22, 2009 where you will be able to register as a volunteer.  You will be able to learn more about the projects scheduled for this year’s event and how you could contribute.

You may register directly with our Volunteer Committee Coordinators, by emailing Joe and Liz Loeper, or by calling them at (610) 873-4809.

You may click on the link located at the bottom of this page, or in the side bar (in the “Volunteer” box) and register online. If you wish, you could print out a copy of the form, complete it by hand and place it in the Sunday collection basket.  We prefer that you complete the online form which will enable us to electronically update our database.

HOW DID LIFE WORKS START?

Four years ago, a group of parishioners, led by the Holy Spirit, traveled to Alabama to assist in the rebuilding efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.  Upon returning from this trip these inspired parishioners sought out projects in the St. Agnes community and surrounding areas to help other churches, organizations and individuals needing help.  This effort has continued to grow through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.  We are hopeful that all parishioners hear the call to serve those who are less fortunate and respond by participating this year.  Also, we are hopeful that with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and an increasing commitment of our parishioners to community service, LIFE WORKS will be blessed with continued growth expanding and serving new communities for years to come.
